Hector Maclean’s Orlando-inspired collection at LFW was a sight to behold.

Fashion and literature have long been intertwined, with designers often drawing inspiration from classic novels, poems, and cultural movements. In this case, Hector Maclean found his muse in Virginia Woolf’s “Orlando,” a novel that explores themes of gender, identity, and transformation over the centuries. “Orlando” provided the perfect canvas for Maclean to craft a collection that would transcend traditional fashion boundaries.

St Paul Church and garden was transformed into a visual journey through time and identity, echoing the novel’s central themes. The collection seamlessly transitioned between feminine silhouettes, timeless ensembles, and mirroring the protagonist’s transformation across centuries and genders.

Spectacular wedding dress made from silks and chiffon.

The captivating opening dress made of remnants from 4 wedding dresses previously made by Maclean. Emphazised how we bring our baggage with us with us and the ‘remnant pieces’ that makes up our new ‘fabric’ as we move on emotionally stronger and beautiful.

We had the pleasure of meeting with Hector in his Hackney Wick studio before LFW. In just within 6 short months he created 28 looks. There were many standout pieces, all meticulously tailored, working late evenings and putting his social calendar on hold, Hector Maclean and his team created an exhilarating experience to behold. Well done! ….

Recycled and Rejuvenated Fabrics: Sustainability in Fashion

In an era where sustainability is paramount in the fashion industry, Hector Maclean’s commitment to using recycled and rejuvenated fabrics is both timely and commendable. Maclean has demonstrated that luxury and eco-consciousness can go hand in hand, and still make a strong tailored statement.

”I want the show to be a celebration of fabrics reborn, as well as a celebration of a broad spectrum of gender and the many nuances of personal expression contained within,” Maclean

His Spring/Summer collection featured fabrics sourced from various upcycled materials, including discarded garments, vintage textiles, and even repurposed household items. The fabrics were transformed into tailored works of art, each piece exuding a unique historical aspect mirroring Orlando’s travel through time and showcased Maclean’s ability to marry the past and present in his designs, just as Woolf’s novel, right from the start.

Hector not only showcased his exceptional talent as a designer, but also shared his appreciation for his Hackeny Wick creative community and give thanks to his warehouse mates and fellow Wick People.
